A business person is only allowed to join one chapter at a time. It is no stranger to a BNI member that only one person from each BNI classification can join a chapter of BNI. Each member can only represent on BNI classification in a BNI Chapter (referring to policy no. 1).
In BNI, we emphasise on the members to represent their primary professional focus. This is to ensure the members will be specialists in their industry. A specialist is the first step to becoming an industry leader. It is advisable to focus on one thing and do it very well to get more, better and repeat quality referrals.
With the limitation of only allowing one chapter to join one chapter at a time is to ensure the member will be dedicated and accountable to their chapter members, and it serves as the ultimate motive for a member to do business through a meaningful relationship.
Since each person only joins a chapter with one classification, how many business people can be part of BNI?
Assuming the chapter only allows one Office Furniture Supplier to join BNI, how many people from the similar industry will be able to join if the region only has 5 chapters?
As a result, in order to allow more people to be part of BNI, we will need to have more chapters.
Other than that, the more chapters we have, the faster the growth of the number of business people that will understand the concept of doing business through collaboration and not competition.
