Sharpen your Axe with your Mentor

Photo from reddit.com

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” — Abraham Lincoln

This is a quote that attracts me. I just came across it the other day. And it got me thinking about why some people don’t achieve their goals.

They tell people they want to chop down a tree. They have an axe that they’re using to do it. But they just keep hacking away at the tree and never inspect how sharp their axe is. Even if it’s completely blunt, they keep hacking.

We should sharpen our Axe first before we Chop the Tree.

If we start the business and we don’t have the skills to grow it. It is just like we have no sharpened axe.

And it doesn’t make a difference if we are gifted, smart or talented.

We may be the strongest person in the world, but if our axe is dull, the tree won’t fall.

It doesn’t mean anything if we do not have the proper mechanism.

We can be hardworking, persistent, brilliant. So?

There are some ways to sharpen our Axes

Instead of struggling a way to “sharpen” our Axes by ourselves, looking for a “Mentor” is a good choice to make.

Surrounding ourself with like-minded person or a Mentor that can make us exchange the views and opinions. These like-minded person or mentor are also sharpening their axes too.

With that, we are be able to sharpen our Axe in a natural way as they are sharpening their axes together with us.

Getting into chamber of commerce or networking groups are also the way to look for like-minded person and mentors. Start looking for one that enable us to look for our “MENTOR”.

Creating the NETWORK that consist of mentors so that we can sharpen our axes together. The community is important. The community will be your network.

“Your network (Social Capital) = your net worth.”
