Reset the alignment of the Team

A team is not a group of people who work together, a team is a group of people who TRUST each other. Trust is a vital element to bring the team together. A profound vision brings the team together. The team must trust and enrolled by the vision. The vision is the target that brings the team together. The team must be aligned to move towards the vision.


A vision is always the "Why?" of the team for being together and not falling apart. If the vision is communicated to the team, the team will be clear of how they should move and what should be done. To ensure the team moves towards the vision, I believe that the team leader should always practise 3Cs:


(a) Clarity

(b) Consistency

(c) Communication





The vision has to be clear and understandable. The team must know and able to visualise the vision and how it looks like when the vision has been achieved. The vision ought to be clear, direct and believable. I believe that vision comes with two elements, i.e. Accomplishment and Contribution. The vision must not only be focusing into the team's benefit only, it must also focusing out to play a role of contribution to the society and world. A vision that consists of the said two elements will be able to sustain and create a legacy for the team.


Moreover, consistent action taken to move towards the vision is also important. The team members and leaders must be clear of their personal core values in order to make the vision happen. My team has determined Five (5) Core Values that able to bring all of us together, in which I would like to take this opportunity to share it here:


1. Positive Attitude

2. Openness

3. Trustworthy

4. Creative

5. Responsible.


Since the vision and core values of the team were determined and coded within the team, communicating the vision to the team is important to make sure the message is sent to the entire team members. The vision is only actionable if we say it loud, if we keep the vision to ourselves, it will always remain as a figment of your imagination (Simon Sinek, David Mead & Peter Docker).


A team will be aligned if the vision is clear and loud. The team members and leaders will know the direction of where they are heading. The team will trust and have faith on the steps and measures that they are taking currently will bring them to where they want. The purpose of the action taken by the team is entrenched within each of them. With that, we can ensure the vision that we are heading is achievable.
