Zhu GeLiang (A.D. 181-234), one of the famous war strategists who is worth discussing and being one of the famous strategists of LiuBei (the King of Shu Kingdom - 229 - 280 AD). Zhu's teachings encompass teachings on how a ruler should govern a country. A very practical strategy that I would like to emphasise will be the observation skills and the attitude of accepting advice.
Being observant is crucial especially when finding the cause of the incident, whether to be an issue, or a great event that happened. Never relying too much on getting lucky so that we are able to determine the action or plan that has been executed leads to the result we have.
Observation skill is important for diagnosis of problems. Problem occured have to be diagnosed comprehensively before coming out with a solution. Never just find a simple way out without dissecting the entire scenario to reach the source. Zhu's teaching emphasised on the importance of "Observe the details, Listen attentively".
"See beyond the eyes, listen beyond the words".
There is always a reason why human beings are given two ears and one mouth only. It is for us to listen more, but speak less. Listening with undivided heart and respect.

The habit of being observant works equally important with being open and receptive to advice. A leader of the organization, or the C-Suite executives, resemble the Ruler of the Kingdom. According to Zhu's teaching, if the ruler is open, the officials will dare to be frank and provide constructive criticism.
A leader or a team with openness allows check and balance to happen, leading to policy of the company to be scrutinized. A leader who is receptive to advice will make himself able to see the blindspot, which eventually enables him to make good decisions by considering the overall implication.
Always open to expert advice, and not being stubborn and righteous to the decisions made, whether right or wrong. Stay open to unknown every moment to moment. Listening to advice with the beginner's mind will allow us to gain clarity and perceive things with refreshing lights.
Good advice might be piercing to the ears just as good medicine often tastes bitter, but more importantly, benefiting the listener.
