How to be noticeable or visible to others while doing a business presentation in a large group of people in a business meeting?
What if you only have 30 seconds to deliver a presentation so that people would refer business to you?
Will you even be noticed if you only have 30 seconds to do a presentation?
Are you referable by others?
The above are usually the common questions that we might have if we heard that we are only given a very short period of time to do a presentation. It is OK to have such feeling as we have been programmed to provide comprehensive information of our own business, services, or products in order for our audience or respondents to know what are we providing or selling.
We always have an impression that we have to present our products or services with a good introduction to capture the attention of the audience. To a certain extent, some people may be shy or embarrassed to do the “calling” during the presentation as they are worrying that the listener would feel that they are “hard-selling” their products or services, causing them to give a long-winded presentation to avoid the step of calling for a referral or to close the sales.
The main point here is that the presentation need not to be long in order for us to be referable by others. To be referable, we must let the audience to be able to remember about our presentation. An over informative presentation will never stimulate the thoughts of the audience as the presentation is too general. The key here is to be specific, as Specific is Terrific!
Breaking our business services or products into smaller components and a little chunk of details will be able to help the listeners to refer us their contacts, as this will allow them to narrow the scope of their own contacts. If we are mentioning anyone, someone, or everyone, then we are targeting no one in the market. To help the listeners to refer businesses to us with ease, being specific about our target is definitely a must!
It is common that we always wanted to provide a full range of services to our clients or customers, we can’t resist the urge of telling everyone that we provide all kinds of services or products, or even we are the “one-stop centre” for our customers. It is not wrong for showing up that way, but it is definitely not going to help us while presenting our businesses in a very limited period of time. It is not practical for us to have every piece of information within the 30 seconds presentation.
As such, in order for us to hook the memory of our audience while listening to our presentation, other than communicating about our experiences to gain confidence from our audience, or talking about our unique selling point and benefits, being specific and specializing in what we are doing will be a good way of putting our business to the others especially when the person who we are engaging with is not familiar with us, or we do not have ample time to build the confidence with our listeners.
We will only be referred if we are being remembered. We will only be remembered if we are noticeable.
Knowing only is not enough, must do. Willing only is not enough, must apply.
